The bottom bracket thing always make me SMH. Back in the day (my old ass day) Cannondale released the 2.8 frame. This was a huge improvement over the previous 3.0 frames (3.0 inch downtube) because it had variable diameter tubes and was a feathery 2.8 lbs (1,271 grams for you metric folks)- light for the day. You could trade in an old frame for the 2.8 and get a super discount. But, instead of actually doing anything with your frame trade-in shops told me that C'dale wanted the shops to cut off the BB and send it in. Ya know, it's not like someone out there could have used a bike- WTF?
